1.4. Manhattan, Central Park
We started our first day in New York City with a bagel 🥯 at Tompkin’s. What a delight! From there we walked to Washington Square Park (Greenwich Village, Lower Manhattan) and continued on 5th Avenue, which starts right at Washington Square Arch.
Im Harry Potter Store… 🤩 Da gibt es einfach ALLES was das HP-Fanherz begehrt. Ja, auch Harry Potter Christbaum-Kugeln z.B. 😁

2.4. Brooklyn
We wanted to walk to Brooklyn crossing the Williamsburg bridge which connects the lower East side of Manhattan with Williamsburg, a fantastic neighborhood in Brooklyn. Took us only about 20 minutes to cross the East River. 😂
We had coffee and some savoury and sweet bites in a lovely vegan cafe called Terms of Endearment. So delicious! 🤤
Next I went to a thrift shop to buy a warm jumper. Ironically the sun 🌞 was shining the whole day and I didn’t need it and was carrying it in my backpack for the rest of the day 🙄
I wonder how many of my dear readers know what this is all about..
Als wir Richtung Brooklyn Bridge gingen sind wir plötzlich in eine Gegend gekommen, in der zunächst einige, später alle Menschen recht eigenartig aussahen. Die Männer trugen schwarze Mäntel und weiße Strumpfhose und äußerst eigenartige Hüte: riesengroß, flach-zylinderförmig (nicht wie ein herkömmlicher Zylinder) und mit Fell besetzt. Die Locken an den Schläfen verrieten uns, dass es sich vermutlich um Juden handelte. Aber um ziemlich orthodoxe anscheinend. Wir recherchierten und fanden heraus, dass es sich um sogenannte Chassidim handelte. Ein interessanter Artikel zu der in New York lebenden Community:

3.4. The Met
Bad weather. Really bad weather. Very cold and rainy most of the time. So we spent the day in the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Even though we were strolling around for more than 4 hours we only managed to see about half of the exhibits… You could definitely spend the whole weekend there!
Dafür ein paar generelle (selbstverständlich rein objektive) Gedanken und auch Beobachtungen über New York:
Die meisten Menschen sind sehr freundlich.
Überall (mit Ausnahme einiger weniger Straßen in den allerbesten Vierteln) liegt Müll. Viel Müll.
Überall wird gebaut/renoviert.
Schnäppchen: eine halbe Stunde parken nur 11$ (Steuern noch nicht inkludiert!)
An jeder Ecke wird Gras geraucht, teilweise gehen die Leute völlig offen damit herum, gerade so als ob sie eine normale Zigarette rauchen würden. Letzteres wird übrigens kaum gemacht.
Viele bekunden auch hier ihr Mitgefühl und ihre Solidarität mit der Ukraine. Von bemalten Garagen-einfahrten und Fahnen in den Fenstern bis ganze Gebäudeteile der Skyline, die in den Farben Blau und Gelb leuchten.
Das Essen ist gut.
Straßen sind größtenteils kaputt. Die Schlaglöcher legendär. Die Amerikaner können nicht Autofahren. Sie fahren aber so, als ob sie James Bond wären.
4.4. Run, Highline, Wallstreet, 9/11 Memorial, Times Square, Top of the Rocks
We started the day with a run along the Hudson River, then got ready for a really busy day. 🐝 First, we walked along the Highline, which we enjoyed a lot because of the great weather.
After that we treated ourselves to some (vegan) burgers and fries.
We strolled through Tribeca before we visited the Wallstreet area.
The next two hours we spent at the 9/11 memorial (+museum). It was extremely sad and painful but we felt obliged to pay tribute to the many people who lost their lives during the tragic events and in the aftermath, some while helping and rescuing others. Their personal stories are very touching and I had to fight back tears more than once.
In order to finish the day in a more positive and light-hearted way, we went to the Rockefeller Center (via Times Square) and treated ourselves to “Top of the rock”. A.M.A.Z.I.N.G. breathtaking views. Nothing more to add. Except: sunset is a great time of the day to explore the skyline from a rooftop, the only thing is, we were not the only ones who thought so 😜
