New Orleans Swamp Tour

We’re going on a swamp tour! 🤩

First of all, what is a swamp?! A swamp is a wetland with incorporated forests. Both land and water play a role in creating this environment. So, if it has trees, it’s a swamp, if it doesn’t, it’s a marsh.

First, I must admit I had my doubts about the tour. Usually, I prefer exploring things on my own and at my own pace, rather than being taken somewhere and having no say in how long we stay at a spot, etc. But in this case I’m super glad that we took part in a guided tour, simply because we would not have seen the huge amount and variety of wildlife that we saw. The reason for this is, that the guides have food with them and the animals are used to the tours and to being fed and they don’t back away when they hear a boat approaching, on the contrary, they even draw nearer and pose for pictures as if they’d been told to do that. 🤩

So did this alligator 🐊 for example:

Or these racoons:

Huge spider šŸ•·ļø, about 12 cm… No kidding! šŸ¤—

Some people actually live here. Why? You don’t pay tax because you literally don’t live on a piece of land because your house floats on the water… 🤷

Drawback? In the event of a severe storm or hurricane your house is gone before you can say Jack Robinson. šŸ™ˆ
